WingXpand has unveiled xPAIR, a patent-pending universal autonomous core engineered to operate interchangeably across uncrewed aerial, ground, and maritime systems.

Historically, covering air, ground, and water has required military personnel to manage three distinct systems, each requiring separate technology, equipment, and training pipelines. WingXpand addresses this operational hurdle by introducing a single modular autonomous core that integrates across multiple vehicle types. An operator can insert the xPAIR unit into the company’s xRAI smart plane for wide-area aerial reconnaissance, mount it within the xTRAIL smart ground vehicle for close-range inspection, or deploy it on the xSAIL smart watercraft to reach maritime operational zones.

“Our military doesn’t need another autonomous system built for one narrow mission,” said James Barbieri, Co-Founder and CEO of WingXpand. “Missions change. xPAIR is designed so autonomous vehicles can change with them, giving operators one common system across air, ground and maritime domains.”

Built in the United States and NDAA compliant, the core provides a shared library of AI threat detections, autonomy, resilient communications, and multi-mission payloads across different platforms. Because the vehicles share AI capabilities, payloads, and a common user interface, operators can expand fleet sizes without procuring completely new equipment or restarting training programs. In active environments, this interoperability fuses real-time data from disparate robotics across domains to provide a comprehensive common operating picture, enabling faster decision-making and allowing teams to deploy unmanned vehicles into high-risk areas before exposing personnel.

The modular architecture also provides a viable path to scale autonomous defense manufacturing. By accelerating the production of a shared smart core today, defense teams can accommodate evolving vehicle types and mission requirements at the speed of need while maximizing return on equipment investments. The xPAIR platform and WingXpand’s autonomous systems have already completed demonstrations alongside several U.S. Army events and multiple U.S. Special Forces teams.
